Welcome to our February play reading, John Van Druten’s ‘Bell, Book & Candle’. 🪄🕯️💖
First performed in 1950 (yes, that’s right!), this quirky comedy centres around Gillian, a West Side witch who casts a charm on her handsome neighbour, Shepherd. But her playful spell causes unexpected mayhem when Gillian begins to fall for Shepherd.
Caught up in her own enchantment, Gillian finds herself forced to choose between her head and her heart as after all - witches aren’t allowed to fall in love!
This spellbinding comedy was first adapted for film in 1958 and is the inspiration behind popular 60's sitcom ‘Bewitched’. Come along for an evening of theatre magic as we read this play and discuss the sorcery behind the stage directions and more!
