Michael Jackson & the Golden Age of Hollywood

Michael Jackson was once simply known as The King of Pop and seen as one of the last great performers to emerge from Tamla Motown, the Detroit record company that brought soul music to the wider world. But was Jackson’s breakthrough into ‘pop’ actually an act of cultural reclamation? Reclaiming African American song and dance moves that were co-opted into the Golden Age of Hollywood? Grace Williams explores Jackson’s fascination with Hollywood and musical theatre, and traces the styles that helped to create the Golden Age in the first place.

Grace Williams is a musician, filmmaker and actor who graduated from Bath Spa University and specialises in creative marketing and PR.
