Synopsis:
This is essentially the script I wrote and directed for Bath Drama in 2016 but with new music, updates, and some major changes in the second half.
The story: In the Middle Ages, Dick Whittington, encouraged by Fairy Bowbells, together with Tiddles the cat, travels
to London to seek his fortune, not realising that King Rat and his Ratlets are planning to use him as a way to enrich themselves. He gets a job at the Alderman Fitzwarren's Emporium of Delights, run by Dame Sarah, and falls in love with the Alderman's daughter, Alice, to the dismay of Idle Jack. He and Tiddles must guard the payroll overnight, but King Rat and the Ratlets sneak in and steal all the money. Everyone but Alice thinks Dick is the thief, so he sets off back to Bath. On the way, Fairy Bowbells tells him to go back, and that one day he'll be Lord Mayor. Meanwhile, the others are setting off to Morocco to sell cereals to the King. At the quayside, Dick & Tiddles get on
board as stowaways - and so do the Rats. There's a terrific storm, the ship goes down, but everyone except the rats swim to the shores of a tiny desert island where Ethel the Pirate King and Yo & Ho the pirates are not only desperate to find the buried treasure, but have now lost all their food to the newly arrived Rats. Tiddles finds the
map, the treasure is found, and the Rats are defeated and captured, and Ethel gives them all a lift back home where
is a happy ever after ending.
