Uncover nature’s most captivating secrets at this Science Week seminar, where the seductive strategies of greenhood orchids and the aerial acrobatics of dragonflies take centre stage.
Dr Tobias Hayashi will reveal how greenhood orchids lure their pollinators by mimicking the sex pheromones of female fungus gnats—an extraordinary example of botanical deception. He’ll also explore the diverse pollination strategies of other Australian terrestrial orchids.
Phil Warburton will showcase the and remarkable courtship displays and mating behaviours of dragonflies and damselflies. These fascinating insects perform a dramatic "cartwheel" mating embrace—an evolutionary innovation that has helped ensure their success.
