This event is exciting. Actually, the event is super exciting! The Morehouse May Madness Street Festival (MMM) organizers are enthusiastically making plans for their 8th annual street festival which is free to the public. There are no gate fees.
Since the first MMM festival took place in downtown Bastrop in 2017, the goal has been to host an upscale event that would be remembered as being secure, clean, well-organized, fun, family oriented, and filled with vendors selling quality merchandise. For this reason, the merchant and food vendors are juried. Each vendor must be approved by the organizers before his or her registration is accepted. 10 x 10 vendor booths are $65 eacj and will increase to $75 on April 1. Trailers are $85 and will increase to $95 on April 1. No 12 x 12 tents are allowed. Merchant vendor booths are assigned on a first-come, first- serve basis with booths around the courthouse assigned first.
The exhibits are first class! The Art Exhibit, which takes place in the spacious Visitor Center Conference Room (124 North Washington), is filled with northeast Louisiana art such as pottery and paintings. Background music is provided to add to the experience. All types of motorcycles will be exhibited with awesome photo opportunities. Parked on Madison Avenue across from the north side of the Morehouse Parish Courthouse will be the popular Classic Car Exhibit which will be for cars that are 1995 or older. At the Farmers Market located on East Madison, there will be activities, music, and fresh produce.
Inflatables will be included in the Kids Zone. Tents will allow activities to continue should the weather be a problem. The Bastrop Fire Department fire truck will be on site to provide the kids an opportunity to become familiar with all of its ladders, hoses, and more. Additionally, the Bastrop Police Department will have a booth to share information about their police force.
Without music, entertainment, and food there can be no festival. MMM will have plenty of great music. The main stage will be located on the west side of the Courthouse and another one will be located on the south side of the Courthouse. The third stage will be located in the parking lot of The Visitor Center near the Motorcycle Exhibit and the Cornhole Tournament. Musicians and entertainers, who are from the northeast LA region, will be on stage. Miss Louisiana will be there to meet, greet and give autographs. Food vendors will offer a wide range of various types of food including hamburgers, deserts, catfish, and bbq ribs. With the help of the Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Department and the Bastrop Police Department, at least three of the streets in the Bastrop historic downtown district will be closed to enable the exhibits, the vendors, the Farmers Market and the other activities to have plenty of room for everyone to share in the spirit of the festival. To provide plenty of security, the Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s deputies will be very visible. Should anyone need medical assistance, emergency medical services will be present across from the CapitalOne bank.
