Winter Birding Walk

Join Andrea Heine for a guided Winter Birding Walk around the Mohawk Pool at Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, one of the best spots to observe cold-season birds in Western New York. As the wetlands freeze and snow blankets the landscape, a unique mix of hardy year-round residents and winter visitors become easier to spot against the quiet winter scenery. Explore the refuge’s habitats while looking for species such as chickadees, woodpeckers, nuthatches, waterfowl, and raptors. Dress warmly and bring binoculars if you have them or pick up a pair at the front desk!.

Date and Time: February 21, 2026 8:30am - 10:30am approx.
Location: Meet at the Kanyoo Trail Parking Lot off Route 77 at the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge.
Accessibility and Things to Know: This is a moderate to more intense hike due to being exposed to weather conditions and the length of the hike. Bathrooms and water are only available at the Visitor center. Please bring water and dress appropriately for the weather.
