1st Annual TAP Billiard Olympics – 4 SHOOTER Team
OPEN TO ALL PLAYERS
General Description:
Four-player teams with a max combined skill level of (20 TAP - 23 APA - 2000 Fargo) compete in 6 different billiard related skills. Points will be awarded for top finishing teams in each event (special prize to top finishing all ladies team). Three Stages each with an Event A and Event B will comprise the days competition. The team with the most points at the end of the event will take home the gold (Payout spots based on participation). Skill levels will be converted using the Billiard University conversion chart. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A LEAGUE MEMBER TO PARTICIPATE!!!
Each stage will engage all four shooters simultaneously that means that EVERY PLAYER MUST COMPETE BEFORE ANY 1 PLAYER CAN COMPETE A SECOND OR THIRD TIME!!!!!
Stage 1:
Event A: 8-Ball Three Man Team Race to 5 – Battlefield 9ft Brunswick Tables
• 8 Ball - 3 Man Team Event: Each team selects 3 players to enter into the 8-Ball race to 5 team single elimination tournament.
o Need to Know Info / Format Info
Each team will arrange their three players from lowest to highest. If you have players of the same rank the team may decide in which order at the beginning of each round. This means a team who has two fives can change the order of their shooters after a round has been completed, but NOT in the middle of an already started match.
Players will play head-to-head in 1 rack of TAP 8 Ball. The winner of the rack scores 1 point.
Players will continue to rotate from highest to lowest (loser breaks format) until the first team reaches 5 points ending the match. First team to 5 points advances to the next round. Single Elimination Format.
Other than the loser breaks format all TAP 8 Ball Rules will be used for Event A. TAP 8 Ball is a called pocket game therefore all (non-obvious) shots must be called not just the 8-Ball. See general overview of 8 ball rules below…
• 8 Ball on the Break (No Foul) is a win
• 8 Ball on the Break (W/Foul) is a loss
• Open Table After Break
• Scratching on break is behind the line
• Scratching while on the 8-Ball is a loss
• Wrong pocketing the 8-Ball is a loss
• Early pocketing the 8-Ball is a loss
• Cue Ball Fouls Only (Ball-In-Hand)
• Pocket Safes Allowed
• Jumping Allowed
Event B – 10-Ball Singles – Battlefield 7ft Diamond Tables
• 10- Ball Singles: The remaining player who is not in the 8-Ball event will play in a 10-Ball single elimination race to their handicap tournament on the 7ft Diamond Tables.
o Need to Know Info / Format Info
Each player will be randomly added into a single elimination bracket where they will play a race to their handicap using TAP 10-Ball rules.
TAP 10 Ball Rules will be used for Event B including the winner breaks format. See general 10-Ball rules below.
• Can’t win or lose on break.
• Push After Break
• Player Option
• No Pocket Safes
• Jumping Allowed
• All non-obvious shots must have a ball and pocket designated. There’s no penalty for calling all shots so if you’re not sure just call it.
Stage 2:
Event A: 3-Ball Pairs Competition – Battlefield 9ft Brunswick Tables
• 3-Ball Competition: Each team will select two players to compete in the 3 Ball competition on the 9ft tables.
o Each player will have 3 balls racked on the spot and have an opportunity to make all 3 balls in the least number of shots. Scratching adds 1 penalty stroke.
o Both shooters’ scores will be added together and the team with the lowest strokes wins!
o Any ties will be broken with extra rounds until a clear winner has been determined.
Event B: 6-Ball Pairs Competition – Battlefield 7ft Diamond Tables
• 6-Ball Competition: The two remaining players not in 3-Ball will by default play in 6-Ball event on the 7ft Diamonds.
o Each player will have 6 Balls placed in each pocket and given ball in hand behind the line. Each shooter will then have an opportunity to make all 6 balls in the least number of shots. Scratching adds 1 penalty stroke to the total. Scratching results in ball in hand if shooter still has balls on the table.
o Both shooters’ scores will be added together and the team with the lowest strokes wins!
o Any ties will be broken with extra rounds until a clear winner has been determined.
Stage 3:
Event A: Perfect Lag Competition – Battlefield 7ft Diamond Tables
• Perfect Lag Competition: Each team will select two players to participate in the perfect lag competition.
o Each team pair will be split into two separate DOUBLE elimination brackets (this guarantees players from the same team don’t eliminate each other).
o Each player will then compete against their bracket in individual LAG-OFFS
WHAT IS A LAG-OFF?
• Each pair of players will LAG simultaneously
• Cue ball closest to the headrail wins and that shooter advances.
• This will be run in a double elimination format.
Event B: Tie-Breaker Shoot Out – Battlefield 9ft Brunswick Tables
• Tie-Breaker Shoot Out: The remaining two players not participating in Event A will by default compete in Event B the Tie-Breaker Shoot Out.
o Each team pair will be split into two separate SINGLE elimination brackets (this guarantees players from the same teams don’t eliminate each other).
o They will then square off one-on-one in a pro-tournament style tie-breaker shootout on the 9ft tables.
Each player will be given a total of 4 tie-breaker shots (Just like the Predator series format).
• Two shots on the dot to the left corner pocket and two shots on the dot to the right corner pocket.
• Any ties will be broken with a shootout first to miss alternating between right and left corner pockets.
