If you thought the CBX was Hondas first dabble into 6 cylinder bikes, you'd be very wrong. The CBX from 1978 was a over a decade after Honda developed some small capacity 6 cylinder racing machines. The Honda RC166 and RC174...
Ridden by brave men of the day such as Mike Halewood and the lesser known Ralph Bryans, they piloted these machines to victory in every race they entered (Hailwood 1967).
The engineering in these machines was far ahead of anything else at that time. The 297cc engine of the RC174 produced 60% more power per litre of displacement than the legendary Cosworth DFV V8 powering 12 F1 World Champion Drivers, and 10 World Champion Teams.
With 20,000rpm on tap and 222bhp from the 297cc 4-Stroke these are the most remarkable of machines. Only two exist, plus 10 continuation models built at Honda's request more recently.
You now have the chance to hear one fired up by a celebrity rider in North Lincolnshire on July 19th 2025 at Thornton Bikefest 2025.
Who will be starting it remains a closely guarded secret, so you'll have to turn up on the day to stand a chance of meeting him.
