Whether it’s creating a cap for a fully polished point, a collar for a double terminated, tapered stone, or making a setting for a raw, straight-out-of-the-ground piece, you’re covered in this 2-day workshop.
Class will cover:
Prepping crystals for wear (and what kind of crystals to avoid making into jewelry)
Design considerations
Mechanical construction
Embellishments
Setting the stone
Experience with metals, especially soldering silver, is helpful, but not required. We will cover how to create 2 different types of settings, and how to modify those basic settings to accommodate differently shaped crystals.
Crystals will be provided in the kit that are ideal for each setting, but students are welcome to bring some of their own pieces to use in class or discuss best ways to use in jewelry after class.
The techniques in this class can also be applied to items such as antler shed or carved/polished wood, so you’re not limited to just making things with pretty rocks!
Chains, additional/different crystals, and embellishments will be available for purchase for those interested (CC accepted).
