BARRY ISLAND UP FOR SALE — A TALK ON DR. WILLIAM PRICE

In 1873, Barry Island went under the hammer at the Royal Hotel in Cardiff. Among the bidders was none other than the flamboyant Welsh eccentric, Dr. William Price of Pontypridd, who arrived in his striking Welsh costume.
Price’s final bid of £7,100 was only just beaten by £7,200 — and with that, Barry Island slipped through his hands.
This talk will explore the extraordinary life and legacy of Dr. Price — physician, Chartist, radical, naturist, and pioneer of cremation and ask the fascinating question: What if he had won the auction? How might Barry Island have looked under his unconventional vision?
Join us as we step into this moment of history and imagine a Barry Island shaped not by developers, but by the most colourful eccentric Wales has ever produced.
