Join us for a unique and immersive Exmoor Game School experience! We've partnered with the fantastic West Ilkerton Farm to give children and families a firsthand look at the journey of their food, connecting farming and nature in a memorable way.
The day will begin with a special Exmoor Game School session focusing on local deer. We'll explore why and how we manage deer on Exmoor, taking you through the entire process from a whole carcass all the way to a delicious lunch.
Afterward, you'll get to hop on a tractor for a tour of West Ilkerton Farm. See for yourself how the cattle and sheep are raised on an Exmoor hill farm and discover the connections to our venison session from the morning.
If time and numbers allow, there may also be a chance to go on a simulated deer stalk (without firearms) to understand the process behind hunting these incredible animals.
It's a fantastic day out that you won't want to miss!
This session will look at the preparation and eating of seasonal, local game that is available to us depending on the time of year - in this instance we’ll most likely be using a Red Pricket. These sessions are very much about learning and information, we are not here to tell people what they should and shouldn’t be eating…there is enough of that kind of thing already and none of it is particularly useful.
These sessions will involve the use of knifes, fire/stoves and we will be skinning and butchering game animals. It is a necessary part of the learning process and we do it with the utmost respect for the quarry we're eating. The children can get as involved as they like or watch and learn, there is absolutely no pressure for them to do anything.
We are asking for a £10 per child donation on the day as a contribution to help cover the costs. If this is a barrier to attendance please still come we will sort something out.
All children MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
These sessions are super popular and book up quickly - we do operate a waiting/reserve list but this is ONLY for the session in question. We just don’t have admin capacity to roll it over.
