Exhibition launch event: The Valley: Art on the border - a cultural history of Marsland

You are invited to join us to celebrate the launch of the exhibition curated by local artist-curator, Peter Stiles.

The exhibition explores the Marsland Valley, its natural heritage and the people who have been inspired by it - locals, environmentalists, artists and pacifists.

The exhibition features work by Dora Carrington, Gillian Ayres, Henry Mundy and James Ravilious as well as archive footage from the 1930s, the music of Benjamin Britten and the writings of Ronald Duncan. Also included is an animation by Petra Freeman who grew up there, paintings by Andrew Lawson, Nichollas Hamper and Sam Mundy as well as Briony Lawson.

We are also presented newly discovered letters from Emmeline Ward to her finacé, William Oke written during the First World War, which describe what life was like there during the time.

***Please note that the exhibition is open to the public from Saturday 24 May, but the launch event to celebrate the opening of the exhibition takes place on Friday 30 May.
