Murkomen Urges Unity After Heated UDA Baringo Nominations
Kipchumba Murkomen has called for unity and mentorship among young leaders after meeting Vincent Kiprono Chemitei the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominee for the upcoming Baringo senatorial by election and his rival Wycliffe Kipsang Tobole, who lost narrowly in the party primaries.
Chemitei secured the UDA ticket in a hotly contested race and will now fly the party flag in the November 27 by election. His victory, however, has stirred debate, with Tobole raising questions over the credibility of the exercise.
Concerns have also been raised by residents and observers over the new e-voting system used during the nominations, with some critics alleging that the process left room for manipulation.
In a statement shared on his official social media pages, Murkomen said his meeting with both Chemitei and Tobole was aimed at encouraging and guiding the next generation of political leaders. He praised the gesture of unity among the contestants, describing it as a vital show of commitment to Baringo’s progress.
“While Mr. Chemitei emerged victorious, I commend the courage, vision, and commitment of all who offered themselves for leadership, many of whom were young people eager to serve,” Murkomen noted.
With the ticket settled, UDA’s next challenge will be consolidating support behind Chemitei and ensuring that dissenting voices within the party do not fracture the campaign. All eyes now turn to November, when voters in Baringo will decide who takes over the senatorial seat.
