Resonate presents, ‘Stories of the Irish Wake’ an evening of storytelling at the Corner Bar, Skibbereen as part of Heritage Week 2025.
Conor Ó Buachalla is a West Cork storyteller, local historian and co-founder of Gormú Eco-Adventures, where he guides guests through the folklore, placenames, and landscapes of West Cork’s rugged coastline. For this Heritage Week evening, following on from Resonate’s ‘Wake Amusements’ gathering in July, Conor draws on a store of wake stories from across West Cork and beyond. Stories of keening women, strange visitors, and the customs and games that once surrounded a death in our community. Woven with local lore and the rhythms of the Irish language, these are the kind of stories once shared over clay pipes, cups of strong tae, plenty of snuff, and odd glass of póitín.
This is a free event. All welcome. There is no need to book, just pop by and listen to a story or two. And maybe share a story or memory of your own!
