Join David Butler and Brendan Mouatt in sunny Kingscliff for three days of Explain Pain and Graded Motor Imagery. This will be an event not to miss!
Explain Pain
In our world of chronic pain and the shortcomings of synthetic drugs, educational tools can effectively tap into our natural pain treatment systems. Knowledge is power. We've learned more about pain in the last twenty years than in the previous thousand, providing answers to "why do I hurt?" and "what can I do about it?". This knowledge benefits everyone, from back pain to hemiplegia and general aching to complex regional pain syndrome.
Explain Pain helps reduce fear and worry about pain. Combined with other active treatment, it reduces pain and enhances return to work and play. Explain Pain has no side effects, is available 24/7, and you can share this knowledge and these strategies with others. Explain Pain is not about explaining pain to people; it has evolved into a skillset that involves supporting people to reframe and construct healthy sense-making and skills supporting rehabilitation - it is an active treatment in and of itself.
Graded Motor Imagery (GMI)
Graded Motor Imagery (GMI) is an evidence-based, graded training programme focusing on how our neuro-immune system develops representations of the body and world. GMI uses strategies to support shifting these models to healthier representations. GMI is beneficial for various chronic pain states, including osteoarthritis, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, phantom pains, and 'non-specific' spinal pains. It provides hope for many people in pain.
GMI involves using apps, flashcards, motor imagery, mirrors, and Explain Pain education. In this course, participants gain confidence and skills to use GMI immediately and integrate it into their current practice effectively.
The course includes practical sessions supported by clinical application discussions.
