What do you call a disabled person? A MATE
To celebrate the 2025 International Day of People with Disability, come along to hear about one family’s experience of autism, and celebrate the power of love and resilience.
Fiona is a devoted mum and advocate for autism awareness. Her son Alessandro is on the autism spectrum and communicates his world through his two great passions: animals and art. His intricate drawings have inspired Fiona to create books and T-shirts that showcase his talent and allow his creativity and voice to be seen, valued, and celebrated.
Their journey has taken them through challenges and triumphs — from navigating education systems to facing adolescence and public misconceptions. Along the way, they have discovered profound lessons of love, patience, and resilience.
You will also see some of the beautiful artwork created by Alessandro, and may also see him working on his art.
