Siam Sinfonietta presents
HISTORY OF THE SYMPHONY: PART ONE
conducted and narrated by Somtow Sucharitkul
including Beethoven’s Second Symphony
and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite
Somtow Sucharitkul explains the story of classical music's most enduring genre, The Symphony, in a series of entertaining concerts. Suitable for young and old, students and seasoned music lovers. The renowed Siam Sinfonietta takes us on a journey through several centuries of music history over a series of five concerts over the next two season!
In the first outing of this series we examine two very different works. Beethoven's Second is one of his most joyful works, written at a time of darkest personal depression when he first realized that he was going to lose his hearing. Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, created at a time when the symphony was losing its position as the premier orchestral showcase of classical music, shows us a much different view of the world, exotic and colorful.
