Ski mountaineering is having a moment. Big races, big hype, lots of uphill energy. But at its core, it’s still just moving uphill, sliding back down, and seeing what your legs have in the tank.
The Mt. Norquay Twilight Series is our stripped-back, local take on skimo. Three races. Sixty minutes each. One goal: stack as much vertical as you can in an hour. Skin up. Rip skins. Ski down. Repeat until the legs fade or time runs out.
The course is built to be welcoming but still spicy. A cruisy skin track set just off the run, a few kick turns to keep things interesting, and a short bootpack to remind you you’re working. An easy blue groomer takes you back down to reset and go again. Each lap comes in around 125 to 135 metres of vert, and it adds up fast.
Backcountry skis, telemark skis, splitboards all welcome. If you can go up and ski down, you’re in. No need to look fast. No need to know all the skimo rules.
Come try it out, push a little past comfortable, and see why this simple up-and-down game has people hooked.
