Lumetland is full of courthouses and bars and unappealing apartments, with the occasional posh paneled room just to make the regular Joes feel inferior. Paul Newman is a serious Lumet guy, a clay-footed lawyer with scotch for blood who gets a chance to turn it all around and blows nearly every shot at it.
