What's brownish-green and grows all over (the Mid-Atlantic, at least)? Pawpaws! Pawpaw trees are the largest edible fruit trees native to North America, producing unique, tropical-tasting fruit that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Join TreeBaltimore and Urban Forester Teddy Martello at the Central Library to learn more about this Mid-Atlantic delicacy. We’ll cover topics including similar fruiting plants in the same family that grow in other parts of the world, basic botany, taxonomy, annual life cycle, importance to indigenous culture, seed saving and propagation, and more...as well as sample some ripe fruit!TreeBaltimore is a mayoral initiative led by Baltimore City Recreation and Parks’ Urban Forestry Division to increase the City's tree canopy to 40%. It also serves as the umbrella organization for City agencies, private organizations and individual tree stewards involved in that effort. Every Spring and Fall TreeBaltimore and partners provide hundreds of trees to Baltimore City residents and homeowners for adoption. For more information visit treebaltimore.org this September.
Tickets for Talking Pawpaws with TreeBaltimore can be booked here.
