Housing Our Neighbors is a grassroots group that organizes people who are homeless, who have been homeless, and allies to end homelessness in Baltimore and beyond.
We’re campaigning to address , including violence, mistreatment by staff, non-functional facilities like showers, toilets, and air conditioning, and moldy and expired food. The conditions are so bad that many people choose to sleep outside, risking exposure to the elements. Despite this, there are currently no standards enforced at the city or state level for shelters. We are building power to pass shelter licensing legislation during next year’s state legislative session by connecting with shelter residents, uplifting their experiences, and creating urgency for change, and to push for enforcement of standards at the city level.
We're hosting a public speakout on shelter conditions at City Hall on Friday, September 26th at 11:00 AM. Join us to raise your voice and demand safe shelter conditions!
If you need a ride, text 443-516-7857.
