The Battle of Baltimore transpired in September 1814 during the War of 1812. Baltimore's first riots occurred in June 1812. Baltimore City became an independent jurisdiction in 1851. Again, Baltimore experienced rioting in April 1861. The Baltimore Orioles won three pennants in 1894, 1895 and 1896. The Great Baltimore Fire raged through the city on February 7, 1904. Baltimore, Maryland once reigned as one of the country's largest and most productive cities in the nation. Welcome Citizens!
