Fight Blight Bmore is on a mission to remediate blight through community-led projects and programs powered by real data from Baltimore residents. Our mobile app—built to help neighbors collect, report, track, and analyze blight data—has been dormant for a while. Now, it’s time to bring it back.
Join us for the first hackathon in a three-part series focused on reviving this vital community technology. We’re inviting developers, hobby coders, and software engineers of all skill levels to help restore and strengthen a platform that supports Baltimore neighborhoods.
Participants may work individually or in teams to complete any of the following technical objectives (each tied to a monetary prize for successful pull request submission):
The GitHub repository will be made public to registered attendees shortly before the event. Device and environment setup will happen on-site, with space to collaborate, troubleshoot, and learn together.
A panel of judges will review submitted pull requests and provide informal mentorship throughout the day. Multiple winners are expected.
Prizes: Four $500 awards and one $250 award.
Whether you're aiming to deepen your Flutter experience, contribute to an open-source civic tech tool, or help empower Baltimore communities, this hackathon offers a meaningful chance to put your skills to work. Your contributions will help revive a resource designed to support residents, drive data-informed advocacy, and combat blight across the city. And, there is no cost to enter.
