With the increased immigration enforcement we are seeing in our communities, many LPN members have expressed the need to better understand how to help their clients put safeguards in place for their families.
The LPN is proud to partner with Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service to host a training on Power of Attorney & Standby Guardianship:
* Power of Attorney – In Maryland, this is a legal document that allows an individual to grant another person authority to act on their behalf for a variety of matters, including financial, business, and healthcare.
* Standby Guardianship – In Maryland, this is a legal arrangement in which parents designate another individual to care for their children, in the event that the parents become unable to do so themselves.
At this training, attendees will:
* Understand how Power of Attorney and Standby Guardianship work in Maryland
* Learn how to help community members fill out the forms
* Know where to refer community members with complex situations for legal advice and assistance
The training will be presented by Steven Kappen, Esq., of Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service.
Join us on Zoom on Thursday, August 14 from 12:00 to 2:00pm for this workshop. This training is for service providers working with immigrant and New American families and will be conducted in English.
