YONG: A hero's journey with Ballarat at its heart

The critically acclaimed play ‘Yong,’ is set to captivate audiences once again as it takes the stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre Ballarat. Set against the vibrant backdrop of the 1857 Goldrush, ‘Yong’ masterfully blends historical fact with narrative fiction, transporting viewers from China to the goldfields of Ballarat.

Developed in collaboration with Ballarat's local Chinese community, ‘Yong’ is a testament to their invaluable historical insights and personal stories. This unique partnership contributed to the play's success, allowing it to win a Sydney Theatre Award. Following a sold-out season at The Sydney Opera House, ‘Yong’ is now coming home to Ballarat, where it belongs.
