Billogram. Billo the name because of abundance of Bel trees in this area in Purba Bardhaman. Bardhaman and then to Burdwan is the anglicised name of Vardhamana. Purba Bardhaman is recorded in British records of 20th century as the richest tract in Bengal and the area of its oldest and most settled cultivation. The British ventured into this area, cleared the area of Bel trees and started indigo cultivation. Even today we can trace some old 'Neel Kuthi' scattered in this region. Billogram came to be known as Belan and then Belun from the times of the Europeans settled in this part of Bengal. The great revolutionary Rash Behari Ghosh was born in village Subaldaha in the district of Purba Bardhaman.
Belun Village is a low lying area and harbours a unique eco system. A great place to unwind and also to explore. Enjoy the thrilling boat ride on Shibai river. For those who are interested in offering Tarpan to your ancestors, we have made arrangements for you to do so on the river Shibai.
