VJ Day Film Screening at Girvan Library

August 1945: It Was Over Then is a contemporary film commissioned by the Imperial War Museum (IWM), as part of activities to mark the end of the Second World War in Asia and the Pacific. The film will premiere at IWM North on 15 August 2025, and will be shown on screens across the UK on the same day. The film was inspired by the findings of a recent survey commissioned by IWM, which showed that the majority of respondents felt no connection to VJ Day and more than half of young people know nothing about it.

Creative and engaging, the film asks people to give just two minutes of their time to experience a snapshot of what life was like for the people caught up in the final stages of the Second World War.

The film is 2 minutes long, shown on repeat. This is a free, drop-in event.
