Andreas Røysum is a Norwegian clarinetist and composer who gathered nine of his best friends and favourite musicians to create an adventurous and explosive ensemble. They released their self-titled debut album in March 2020, and have been called “a musical national team”, “the only freaks in Norwegian jazz” and “some of the most interesting musicians in the country.” Their powerful compositions blur the lines between “wild, exploratory free jazz, folk roots, and elegant post-bop,” driving them to expand time and space and melt together as one. The ensemble believes in music’s transcendental and unifying force so when an opportunity arose to play with the legendary poet and artist Marvin Tate from The Separatist Party, they made the best of it and together created something completely new, exciting and refreshing that so far has only been possible to be experienced live.
Trio Glossía is a bold new jazz trio emerging from North Texas. Comprised of Stefan Gonzalez (drums, vibraphone), Joshua Cañate (drums, saxophone), and Matthew Frerck (bass), they draw from the full spectrum of post-bop, free improvisation, and beyond. Blurring the lines between composition and spontaneity, their music is both intellectually stimulating and viscerally exciting—cerebral yet charged with raw, infectious energy. Trio Glossía is a testament to jazz’s enduring spirit—fresh, brash, eclectic, and rebellious.
MESTIZX is a project by the Amsterdam-based Ferragutti and Rosaly who dove into the sounds of their respective ancestral roots in Bolivia, Brazil, and Puerto Rico to create a deeply personal meditation on decolonization and the defiant power of ritual and protest. They chose the title MESTIZX - a non-gendered version of the sometimes slurred Spanish colonial word for a “mixed person” - as a means of both challenging and embracing the liminality of their identities and artistic practices.
This project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
