We are thrilled to welcome Kyle Okeke, Jose Flores, and Jenny Tinghui Zhang for our September I Scream Social!

Presented by Host Publications, I Scream Social is a monthly feminist reading series and ice cream party that takes place at Alienated Majesty Books. We aim to celebrate and empower historically marginalized writers and share incredible literature and diverse perspectives to an Austin-area audience. Kyle Okeke is an MFA student at UT Austin. His chapbook "A Door in the Snow" is set to be published by the poetry society of America in 2026.

Jenny Tinghui Zhang (she/her) | @sunspotletters on IG| loves green tea, pistachio, or vanilla bean ice cream!

Jenny Tinghui Zhang is the author of the novels Superfan (forthcoming in February 2026) and Four Treasures of the Sky, named an Idaho Book of the Year and short- and longlisted for the Chautauqua Prize, the Dublin Literary Award, the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award. Her work has appeared in The Cut, Foreign Policy, The New York Times, Texas Highways, and elsewhere. She is a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 honoree and has received support from Yaddo, Sewanee Writers' Conference, Kundiman, VONA/Voices, Tin House, and the University of Wyoming, where she completed her MFA.

The open mic is reserved for writers from historically marginalized communities.

Because slots are limited and we want to make room for everyone, we ask that you wait until 7:10 to sign up if you joined us for the open mic the previous month.
