About the event

Bloodline Brushstrokes: Music Performance & Fashion Show
Artist Dennis Jacob Berry will perform his music and host a fashion show featuring his wearable art.

About this Event

Join us on Saturday, May 17th from 2 - 4 pm at the Old Bakery and Emporium for a fashion show and live music performance by Dennis Jacob Berry.

Dennis Jacob Berry, known musically as Mr. Skillion, is a genre-blending artist whose music combines hip hop, soul, and spoken word to tell powerful stories rooted in heritage and liberation. A descendant of Reverend Jacob Fontaine—an influential freedom fighter, minister, and founder of Austin’s first Black-owned newspaper—Mr. Skillion carries forward his legacy through sound.

This event is part of our current art exhibition, Bloodline Brushstrokes: A Fifth Generation Vision of Jacob Fontaine’s Legacy in Art.

About the Art Exhibit:

The Bloodline Brushstrokes exhibit will be on display April 5 through June 21, 2025 and features a collection of paintings by Dennis Jacob Berry, the fifth generation grandson of Reverend Jacob Fontaine (1808-1898). Jacob Fontaine arrived in Austin in 1839. Throughout his life, he established multiple Black churches in Central Texas, including Austin's first Black Baptist Church in 1867. Nine years later, Fontaine founded Austin’s first Black-owned newspaper, The Gold Dollar.
