It is time for some Summer Reading with Getting To Know The Goddess!
This summer we are reading Dion Fortune’s esoteric fiction books “Sea Priestess” and its sequel “Moon Magic.” First published in 1938 and 1956, both have continued to be in print and are considered enduring classics. The author, Dion Fortune is recognized as one of the most luminous figures of 20th century esoteric thought. She was a prolific writer, pioneer psychologist, powerful psychic, and spiritualist. She was dedicated to the revival of the Western Mystery Tradition.
Our schedule:
“Sea Priestess” 16 July, 7 to 9 pm
“Moon Magic” 20 August, 7 to 9 pm
You are welcome to join one or both discussions.
In July, in “Sea Priestess” Dion introduces her most powerful fictional character, Vivien Le Fay Morgan a practicing initiate of the Hermetic Path. Vivien has the ability to transform herself into magical images, and in “Sea Priestess” she becomes Morgan Le Fay, sea priestess of Atlantis and foster daughter to Merlin. Working with another at a seaside resort, they investigate occult mysteries and the magnetic ebb and flow of the moontides.
In August, in “Moon Magic” we pick up Vivien’s trail after her adventures in “Sea Priestess”. Vivien has traveled to London, following an inner calling to establish an Isis cult, and now is known as Lilith Le Fay. Lilith buys herself a decommissioned church and refurbishes it to be her home and temple. She uses her knowledge of moontides to construct an astral temple of Hermetic magic.
Optional: We also suggest Dion’s “The Mystical Qabalah” as companion reading. Dion said that her fiction books were the practice and that her nonfiction book “Mystical Qabalah” was the theory. Our discussions will focus primarily on the fiction books, so if you don’t want to do the extra reading, you will still enjoy the conversation. The books can be purchases from BookWoman, ebookwoman.com

Coming attractions:
In the Autumn, we are looking forward to presentations by a feminist astrologer, an artist of Goddess statues, and an interesting experience of a spiritual tour of Crete. We will share dates as soon as those are set. In December we will do our traditional honouring of Virgin of Guadalupe.
Call for Proposals:
We are beginning to take proposals for 2026! We want to hear your ideas for presentations you want to present, topics you want to know more about (but not present), and possible female presenters. In March we traditionally honour a woman who has passed who contributed to women’s spirituality, studies, and/or circles. We are interested in hearing your thoughts for March 2026. For July and August we traditionally do a summer reading and discussion. We are interested in hearing your suggestions for books. In December we traditionally honour the Virgin of Guadalupe (sometimes known as Tonantzin) and are interested in approaches for a presentation.
We will begin putting together next year’s programming later in the Fall. Please send your proposals to Stephanie Lowe
