ShepardFest is an annual festival in the nation's oldest city, honoring the life and work of Sam Shepard. Widely regarded as the definitive cowboy of the American theatre, Shepard was a compelling and singular artist whose voice reshaped the modern stage.
To be presented each summer, this festival emphasizes education and artistic collaboration, partnering with university programs and Shepard scholars from across the country to explore his enduring legacy.
This is a fully professional endeavor, and all roles are paid. The season includes film screenings, a mainstage production of BURIED CHILD, and a reading of KICKING A DEAD HORSE.
We are casting “Father Dewis” in BURIED CHILD and understudies for all roles. Other roles available are the speaking male and non-speaking female for KICKING A DEAD HORSE. These auditions are also for consideration in future productions. Those interested in joining the acting company are invited to schedule an audition and interview slot. It is not necessary that you be a Sam Shepard connoisseur, but we would love to know if you have a deep admiration for some of his work. Questions may be directed to Mary Claire Branton at
