On Thursday, May 8, seven bills that would roll back the rights of trans Mainers will be heard before the legislature's judiciary committee. We need YOUR voice and YOUR energy to send a very clear message to lawmakers: Mainers won't be bullied, and we stand up for the civil rights of all people.

Afternoon blocks (1pm & 3pm)- Bills related to the Maine Human Rights Act: LD 1337; LD 1432; LD 230

The bills can be grouped into two categories. The first is bills regarding schools and sports, which would deny trans kids the right to participate on school sports teams or to use bathrooms and changing rooms that align with their gender identity. The second deals with civil rights - namely by removing gender identity as a category in the Maine Human Rights Act.
They're all part of a larger political agenda that would see trans people erased from the public sphere entirely, and which raises disturbing questions about how a trans sports ban would be enforced and just who it would target.
