We are excited to announce our annual Naad Festival in celebration of Ustad Zakir Hussain ji, happening on August 2nd at the Māngere Arts Centre - Ngā Tohu o Uenuku. The event will feature two of India's most renowned musicians from Mumbai, Ustad Fazal Qureshi ji and Ustad Dilshad Khan, alongside our talented artists Daljeet Kaur and Manjit Singh with the Takadimi Indo-Jazz Fusion Band.
The evening will showcase a classical Indian music duet of Sarangi and Tabla performed by world-class artists Ustad Fazal Qureshi (brother of Ustad Zakir Hussain) and Ustad Dilshad Khan (nephew of Ustad Sultan Khan). Additionally, there will be a unique cross-cultural fusion of classical Indian music with New Zealand’s prominent Indo-Western band, Takadimi, featuring Daljeet Kaur on vocals, Manjit Singh on tabla, Alan Brown on keys, Olivier Holland on bass, Nigel Gavin on guitar, Swap Gomez on tabla, and many other talented musicians from Auckland.
The event will also honor the life and legacy of Zakir Bhai through a special discussion with Fazal Qureshi and Greg Booth.
