Join our rangatahi as they raise their voices and demand housing justice for all!
Bring signs and your voices. This protest march is being organised by the rangatahi at Kick Back Make Change.
Meet outside 307 K rd (Kick Back Rangatahi Hub) at midday. The march will go down Queen Street and towards The Light House/ Tū Whenua-a-Kura on Queens Wharf where there will be kai and speeches.
Winter is coming, and the crisis in youth homelessness is escalating. Our rangatahi deserve to have a safe and stable place to call home, but for too long institutions have let them down leading to an increase in homelessness.
Decisions by this government to put up barriers to access emergency housing has meant more and more young people are being denied support from Work & Income and forced into unsafe situations.
We are taking this to the streets where young people are forced onto to demand:
* Roll back the emergency housing changes so young people receive the support they need for temporary housing solutions
* Invest in a strategy to prevent and end youth homelessness
* Commit to Duty to Assist legislation to ensure everyone gets support from Government and community organisations when they are homeless
* Reinvest money back into building youth specific housing projects
* Invest in an immediate housing crisis service that works for young people while permanent and stable housing is being built
* Build more public housing and commit to providing public housing to young people
Let’s stand with our rangatahi and call for an end to youth homelessness!
