Walking in nature is a great way to get fit, make friends, and enjoy nature.
This track is DOG friendly - so feel free to bring your prized pooch!

On SUNDAY 5th October at 8am, anyone in our online community is welcome to meet downtown Auckland (outside the ferry terminal building, on THE CLOUD side), and we will drive in convoy to the start of the track in Piha. It's up to you to be on time, and meet the group, especially if you want a lift.
You are welcome to carpool to save fuel, great if you don't have a car, but you should message us advanced warning of needing a lift, to avoid disappointment!). There's never a guarantee with carpooling so please check first if enough cars are going in both directions.
We will meet just at 8am, gather, get into cars then drive out.
Those who don't want to meet in the city can meet at 9am at Arataki Visitor Center.
We will all stop there and have a good look around before continuing on to the trail in Piha. This is another opportunity to carpool, if you prefer to jump in another car to get to Piha.
The walk itself is short: only a few KMs / hour or so, but worth it for some beautiful scenery. You are most welcome to choose to do other hikes in the area after the falls, spend time on the beach or go do some other things afterwards.

"It's an easy, gradual climb with lots to see on the way. There are some tricky stream crossings, so be careful as you make your way across.
The Kitekite Falls Track has been upgraded so walkers can enjoy the best of the Waitākere Ranges without harming the kauri trees that are under threat from the kauri dieback disease.
The route has formed gravel tracks and boardwalks throughout and the gradual climb to the famous Kitekite Falls is manageable for people with moderate fitness.
Near the falls there are two stream crossings that take some agility and good balance. Bring a walking stick if you’re not sure about this.
This track takes you up into beautiful forest area, with a spectacular waterfall as a reward for your efforts".
BRING
- Togs towel if you want to get wet! You can go for a spring dip if you like,
- Food to eat under the waterfall (something to share is nice),
- Rain coat / warm clothes,
- Water to drink
- Personal medications
- Suitable footwear.
There's no ticket for this event: just show up and come for a group activity!
