FREE WORKSHOP: Woodblock Printing with Sybille Schlumbom

Stop by the gallery on Sunday, July 13 between 1:30 - 3:30PM to try your hand at making a woodblock print with artist, Sybille Schlumbom!

This is a free workshop, suitable for all ages.


With Sybille’s guidance, you will experience this sustainable printing technique hands-on. After a short instruction, you create multi-coloured prints from existing plates to take home

Sybille's making process is informed by her water-based woodblock printing practice, or mokuhanga. This Japanese printing technique is best known for the Edo period Ukiyo-e prints and has gained momentum as a contemporary printing practice among artists globally.

About Sybille Schlumblom
Sybille is a full-time artist with a First-Class Honours Master of Visual Arts degree from Auckland University of Technology. Her practice focuses on site-responsive and material-sensitive printmaking and installation techniques, drawing from her engagement with mokuhanga, Japanese water-based woodblock printing.

In her work, she seeks to establish a connection to ‘place’, archiving subtle traces left by transient encounters and environmental interaction with the site.

Originally trained in painting and illustration, Sybille brings a multidisciplinary perspective to her practice. With experience across a diverse range of media, Sybille uses her curiosity and passion for the arts to create a dynamic and engaging environment in her classes and workshops.
