Taking place in Ukraine and around the world, the run "I Honour Warriors, I Run for the Heroes of Ukraine" is an annual patriotic tradition dedicated to commemorating the soldiers who died during the Russian-Ukrainian War. Initiated in 2018 by the father of the fallen hero, ‘cyborg’ (defender of the Donetsk Airport) Oleksii Durmasenko, the run has expanded from Ukrainian regions to 40 countries.
This race is not a competition, and its primary goal is to honour the memory of the fallen heroes. This run is our tribute to the service men and their families for their sacrifice in defending Ukraine’s territorial integrity. This includes four kiwi heroes who also paid the ultimate price for Ukraine - Dominic Abelen, Andrew Benshaw, Kane Te Tai and Shaun Le Cairns.
Participants can run their chosen distance (2km, 5km, or 10km) with the name of a known or unknown person who gave their life in the fight for Ukraine's territorial integrity between 2014 and 2025 attached to their shirt.
Participants are encouraged to share the Hero's story with the hashtags #RunningForHero_2025 and #run2025 on social media. We welcome all our friends, Ukrainian or not, to join us on our run in Auckland, Mission Bay on the 30th of August at 10am.
