Fernandez has researched consumers’ relationships with their meaningful possessions within diverse contexts - from garage sales, guitars, and gold jewellery - to vapes, vinyl, and virtual communities. Join us as she discusses how culture, contamination and connection bridge boundaries between people, possessions, and places, and shape circular consumption.

About the Speaker

Dr Karen V. Fernandez (PhD Kansas) is Professor of Consumer Culture in the department of Marketing at the University of Auckland. As New Zealand’s leading Consumer Culture Theory researcher, she navigates boundaries to understand how and why people, possessions and places are connected. As a Distinguished Marketing Educator of the Australia-New Zealand Marketing Academy who has published in Marketing’s most prestigious journals, she is passionate about shaping postgraduate students’ research journeys.
