The Cemetery Club - 'a comedy to die for' - will be performed at Belmont's Rose Centre November 7-22: Written by Ivan Menchell & directed by Kathy Gent! 10:30am on Sunday 10th August, we'll be holding auditions upstairs at the Rose Centre - for a cast of four women and one man, all in their late 50s-70s.
Every month without fail Ida, Lucille and Doris meet up for tea before visiting their husbands’ graves. Fun-loving bombastic Lucille and haughty judgemental Doris sense romance brewing when Sam enters the scene, and Ida - sweet and optimistic - sees Sam as a chance for a fresh start in life. But in true rom-com fashion, Lucille and Doris take it upon themselves to snip this romance in the bud.
We're looking for actors with high energy & a love of comedy to audition for this lovely poignant comedy - truly ‘a comedy to die for’! New York Jewish accents will be needed.
Characters:
*Doris: Outspoken, has a nice line in put-downs, inclined to be judgemental. The most resistant to change of the three friends.
*Ida: Funny, sensitive, generally sweet-tempered, though she can be quite sharp. The most self-aware of the women.
*Lucille: Extravagant, extrovert, tactless, man-conscious. Despite her brittle surface, perhaps the most vulnerable of the women.
*Sam: Kind, thoughtful, good-humoured with rather a wry sense of humour.
*Mildred: In her one scene, Mildred certainly makes an impact!
