Before Drum 'n' Bass, before Jungle, even before Hardcore, APHRODITE was doing his thing. While acid house was the name of the game, back in 1988, this man was already making musical moves. Establishing himself as a producer, and Aphrodite Recordings label owner, by the early nineties, he's been a mainstay of the UK rave scene ever since and helped set the template for jungle music (as it broke away from its hardcore foundations).
As the mid-nineties came along, Aphrodite's use of stripped-back, high-energy bass and beats, combined with hip-hop and reggae samples, would make him one of the founding fathers of jump-up drum 'n' bass. Alongside his long-time sparring partner Micky Finn, Aphrodite planted the roots of a style which, years later, now dominates the landscape of DnB in the UK and beyond.
So, given his influence on the whole DnB genre, it’s no wonder that Aphrodite's DJ career continues to take him all over the globe. His multi-continental bookings diary, including some of the biggest festivals and clubs the scene has to offer, is, understandably, packed.
Aphrodite tore THE MOTHERSHIP to shreds during his last performance at the venue, and those lucky to be in attendance that night can truthfully attest!
