Brought to you by Auckland Council Waste Solutions!
Join us and dive into the art of furniture upcycling and restoration! Over five weeks, you’ll learn practical skills while working on your own project. All tools and materials are provided, just bring along a piece of furniture (like a bedside table or small set of drawers made from solid wood, ideally native or hardwood rather than pine).
We’ll cover the four key stages of wooden furniture restoration:
Strip → Sand → Stain → Seal
Along the way, you’ll get to know the tools and products, and we’ll also look at how to tackle common issues like breaks, cracks, and borer.
Then it’s time to get stuck into your own restoration project!Important Notes:
You need to arrive at this workshop for the beginning of class and the health and safety briefing to be able to take part in the rest of the class.
Please bring your own rubber gloves.
Children are not able to attend with guardians due to health and safety requirements.
Please bring a small piece of furniture, not a precious piece to learn on. You will need to take your furniture home at the end of each session.
All participants must wear covered shoes and non-flowing clothing (tight-ish!).
Some work may be outdoors, please wear a sun hat and sunscreen if required.
Please wear old clothes and bring a water bottle and snacks.
