Sharing the Journey of Discovery & Native Plant Sale

Come learn about the discovery of two new species of monkeyflower discovered in the Sierra Nevada in a free public program. A limited number of other species of native plants will be available for cash or check at 6pm, prior to the program.

The fern-leaved monkeyflower, Erythranthe filicifolius, has finely divided, bi-pinnately compound leaves, found in the northwestern Sierra Nevada where it occurs mostly on ephemeral seeps in rock outcrops. The granite-crack monkeyflower occurs in longitudinal cracks of granite formations. Come learn about these new species and explore the beauty and diversity of monkeyflowers (genus Diplacus, Erythranthe, Mimetanthe) focusing on our northern region and some special statewide stand-outs.

About the Presenter

has been photographing, studying and describing new monkey flowers for over 40 years in California. He is retired from a state government career, both supervising the state's noxious W**d eradication program and supervising the CNDDB and veg mapping programs at California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
