Pavements with Special Guests!

PAVEMENTS is coming to the Plaza starting June 6, and we’re kicking off the run with a bang. Lance Bangs (yes, that Lance Bangs) will join Chris Black for a special Q&A following the screening.

How best to commemorate the career of Pavement, one of the defining indie rock bands of the 1990s? Legendary frontman Stephen Malkmus would probably cringe at the usual tributes. A museum show? A Broadway jukebox musical? A glossy biopic?

Director Alex Ross Perry (Listen Up Philip, Her Smell) delivers all of the above and more in this wildly inventive sorta-documentary. With a tone as sardonic and idiosyncratic as Pavement’s music, Pavements flouts convention, mixing archival footage, behind-the-scenes material from the band’s 2022 comeback tour, and surreal, semi-scripted scenes starring Jason Schwartzman, Joe Keery, Fred Hechinger, Nat Wolff, Tim Heidecker, and Logan Miller.
