Calling all Cub Scouts with an interest in wildlife and the natural world around them!
With the return of the Nova Awards in Silver Comet, we are proud to announce the return of Silver Comet STEM Days! Our first event will feature the Nova Wild! award for Cub Scouts. Over the course of two Saturday mornings, we will work on and complete the entire Nova Wild! award.
The first Saturday (August 16th) will consist of a trip to the Atlanta Zoo, and a special 1-hour guided tour at 9:30 am, tailored specifically for Cub Scouts. Participants are welcome to spend the rest of the day at the zoo following our tour.
The second Saturday (August 23rd) will consist of approximately 2-hours of "classroom time" where Scouts will complete the award requirements with certified District Nova Counselors. This will take place at Macland Community Church from 9 am to 11 am.
If the Scout attended both sessions, they will be awarded their Nova patch (if it's their first Nova award) or a Nova pi pin (if it's a subsequent award) upon completion.
The cost is $25 per Scout (includes zoo general admission and patch or pin), and the event is limited to just 25-scouts, so register now!
Each Scout must be accompanied by an adult partner at BOTH sessions. Zoo tickets are available to adult partners and siblings at the discounted rate of $20.99 per person. Siblings under the age of 3 are free. All active-duty, reserves, veterans, and retired members of the US Armed Forces will also receive free admission with a valid military ID.
Requirement # 1 is a pre-requisite that will take approximately 1-hour to complete at home. This must be completed prior to the the second classroom session in order to complete the award. Please review the requirements at bit.ly/4n98e7X.
