Renegade Theatre Company is excited to present Next to Normal, with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. This emotionally charged, deeply moving musical theatre piece explores how one household copes with crisis and mental illness. Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Score and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, Next to Normal was also chosen as "one of the year's ten best shows" by critics around the country, including The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times. The riveting pop/rock score provides myriad opportunities for performers to showcase vocal talents and explore meaningful dramatic material. Next to Normal is an emotional powerhouse that addresses such issues as grieving a loss, ethics in modern psychiatry, and the nuclear family structure.

- A GLIMPSE INTO OUR INTERPRETATION -
Next to Normal ripped through the social consciousness when it premiered in 2008, encouraging families across the country to have difficult conversations about mental health. We’ve chosen this raw, sometimes controversial piece to further shine a light on mental health and what mental illness looks like in 2025. Those living with mental illness and caring for loved ones who are struggling to get a clear diagnosis continues to be a stark, pressing reality for so many in our community. We want to encourage conversations within our community about the realities and varied experiences of those living with mental illness.
- CAUSE WE’RE SUPPORTING -
As with all of our productions, a portion of proceeds will be donated to a cause we believe in. For this production, we’re raising funds in support of NAMI Georgia, a non-profit, grassroots mental health organization that empowers affiliates to provide advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.
