Atlanta’s Tribute to Roy Ayers featuring Mark Adams & The Ubiquity Band & Atlanta friends. Opening act vocalist Heda Rose.
Join us as we celebrate the legendary Roy Ayers (1940 - 2025) with a special tribute concert at The City Winery Atlanta!
Led by longtime bandleader and masterful keyboardist Mark Adams, this electrifying performance will bring Ayers’ timeless grooves to life with the incredible Ubiquity Band—a group of world-class musicians who have carried the torch of jazz-funk fusion for decades. This special evening will also feature many of Roy Ayers' friends—vocalists and musicians who performed with him in Atlanta, on recordings, and across the world—coming together to honor his legacy.
Roy Ayers, the visionary vibraphonist, composer, and producer, was a pioneer of jazz-funk and a key figure in the acid jazz movement. Known as the "Godfather of Neo Soul", Ayers shaped the sound of generations with classics like Everybody Loves the Sunshine, Running Away, and Freaky Deaky with rock-funkster Rick James, and Music of Many Colors with Nigerian superstar Fela Kuti. His influence extended far beyond jazz, as his music became one of the most sampled in hip-hop history.
Mark Adams: A Masterful Recording Artist
Mark Adams is an accomplished keyboardist, composer, and recording artist, whose career spans collaborations with Lonnie Liston Smith, Brian Jackson, Ron Carter, and more. As a solo artist, Adams has released multiple albums, including Asceticism: A Portrait of Jazz, Feel The Groove: A Souljazz Experience, and Love & Dance. His artistry blends deep jazz roots with contemporary soul, making him the perfect leader for this tribute.
Heda Rose joined the R&B Girls Billboard Charted Group "Pure Soul" produced by Raphael Saddiq, Teddy Riley and Gamble & Huff. She has been featured on Good Morning America, Soul Train, BET and VHI.
Heda Rose was selected as a finalist on the Apollo Theater in 2018. After a break
in music, she has returned to the stage and continues to develop her artistic practice through various activities, to include Music Composition, Poetry Writing & Performance, Documentary Film Production and other creative elements added to her repertoire.
