It's 1939 in Nazi Germany, and a Jewish woman named Helga is preparing her nine-year-old daughter Eva for travel on a Kindertransport, which will take her to the relative safety of a foster family in England. Soon, Eva's story will become a hidden history, which will be unraveled more than forty years later in a dusty storage room in a home outside of London. This gripping drama, which has been called "richly eloquent, deeply moving and essential viewing" by The Independent, has enjoyed numerous productions worldwide since its London premiere in 1993 (including a 1998 production at Atlanta's Jewish Theatre of the South).
This one-night-only event features an all-star cast of some of Atlanta's most sought-after professional actors. Don't miss it!
Featuring: Wendy Melkonian, Kate Crabtree, Pamela Gold, Kathleen McManus, Gillian Rabin, Jacob York and Amy L. Levin. Directed by Mira HirschThis performance is made by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.
Many thousands of children were transported to England, but only 1000 or so were relocated to the United States. Some of them found themselves in Georgia, including brothers Ben and Jack Hirsch (Atlanta), Henry Birnbrey (Atlanta), Charlotte Dreyfus (Westpoint) and brothers Gerhard and Werner Linz (Albany). The Breman holds interviews, photographs, and materials related to them and others in the Ida Pearle and Joseph Cuba Archives www.thebreman.org/researchThe Breman is honored to be the story keeper of these child survivors and to present KINDERTRANSPORT.
