About the event

Athens Teach-In & Rally: Good Trouble Lives On
https://mobilize.us/s/jVFJBP

Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the current administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people. John Lewis was 15 when he gave his first sermon and 18 when he became actively involved in civic action. ALL AGES WELCOME! Let's support youth leaders and activists in Athens! Meet in the auditorium of the main Athens-Clarke Library at 11am for a lively presentation about John Lewis's legacy as it relates to local leaders and organizations. Then, we will make signs and march from the library to Alps Rd. and Baxter St. If you have one, bring a tween/teen/young adult OR a blank sign to share (or both!)

11:00am - 11:45am - Presentation in the library auditorium
11:45am - 12:15pm - Sign-making party
12:15pm - 12:30pm - Walk with signs to the corner of Alps & Baxter St.
12:30pm - 1:30pm - Sign-waving rally at the corner of Alps & Baxter St.

SPEAKERS
*Athens' Poet Laureate & Georgia Conflict Center Coordinator, Mikhayla Smith
*Brittany Lopez with Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition and U-LEAD
*Elliot Williamson from Athens Pride + Queer Collective
And more!

From GoodTroubleLivesOn.org:
On July 17, the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’s passing, we’re taking action across the country to defend our democracy and carry forward his legacy of Good Trouble.

From voter suppression bills like the SAVE Act to the criminalization of protest, the current administration is launching a full-scale attack on our civil and human rights. But we know the truth: in America, the power lies with the people, and we’re rising to prove it.

This is more than a protest; it’s a moral reckoning. A continuation of the movement Lewis helped lead, and a new front in the struggle for freedom.

**Please note:** A core principle behind our Good Trouble Lives On actions is a commitment to nonviolence in all we do. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
