CMH will host a year-long course focused on weight loss and diabetes prevention. The program begins Wednesday, February 4, and will include 22 class sessions held throughout the year.
A trained lifestyle coach will guide participants through the course, which is proven to cut the risk of type 2 diabetes in half. Participants’ overall health will be improved by losing weight, eating better and exercising. The course’s curriculum is approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Pre-diabetes affects an estimated 84 million Americans, but only 1 in 10 know they have it. You may have pre-diabetes and be at risk for type 2 diabetes if you:
• Are overweight
• Are at least 45 years old
• Have a parent or sibling who has type 2 diabetes
• Are physically active fewer than three times a week
• Ever gave birth to a baby that weighed more than nine pounds
• Had gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy)
Classes will be held Wednesdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., starting February 4. The classes start weekly, then move to bi-weekly, then monthly. Make-up sessions will be available for participants who can’t make it to the first course session and any future sessions.
Most insurances cover the program but check with yours before the start date to make sure. Register for the course by calling 503.325.4321, ext. 82807.
